Hair extensions are an investment. And just like any investment, they need to be taken care of. Gone are the days you could just wake up, throw your hair in a bun, and rush out the door. Now, you really need to pay attention to your hair so that your investment doesn’t go to waste.
Here’s everything you should do to double the lifespan of your hair extensions:
Use Sulfate Free Shampoo
It is super important to use the right shampoo and conditioners for your hair extensions. Using regular shampoo will shorten the lifespan of your hair extensions. Regular shampoos are full of parabens, alcohol, and sulfate, all of which can damage your hair. Its strips your hair of its natural oils, resulting in dry, brittle, and frizzy hair. If you want to prevent your hair extensions from tangling, we suggest that you invest in sulfate-free shampoos that contain fatty alcohols. These products will lock in moisture in your hair, making them softer and shinier. We recomend using this Cleansing Cream once a week.
Weekly Deep Conditioning
Hair Extensions are naturally more dry as it is processed hair. To revive the hair we strongly encourage using a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week. This will prevent it from drying out and tangling. Our favorite hair mask is one specifically made for hair extensions: Silk Conditioning Treatment.
Daily Hair Oil
Following up with the deep conditioning, it is important to keep you hair moisturized on the daily. Our hair is constantly getting wear and tear from sun, other environmental exposures, us pulling on it and styling it. We recommend using the Gloss Serum every morning before brushing out your hair.
Brush your hair extensions regularly if you want to keep them intact. Brushing your hair frequently prevents the scalp and roots from absorbing most of the tension from your hair extensions. As a result, you won’t only have a healthier scalp, but your hair extensions will also last much longer.
Invest in a double bristle brush that’s made especially for hair extensions. Normal hair brushes are not as gentle on the extensions as the double bristle brush which can call pulling and breakage. Divide your hair into a couple of sections from the roots, and brush gently in downward motions when hair is moisturized.
PS. If you’re going on vacation, we recommend carrying a travel sized brush with you. This way, you’ll be able to access it whenever you want.
The most important bit of maintaining your hair extensions is visiting your hair extension professional for regular maintenance procedures. Visit your stylist every couple of months to keep your hair extensions in the best condition. Use the daily leave in conditioners and oils your stylist recommends for keeping the hair shiny and healthy! They can help you detangle your hair, refit hair extensions that are falling out, give you tips for the proper aftercare procedure, and much more!
